Ski!: A shout to alert people ahead that a loose ski is coming down the hill. Another warning skiers should be familiar with is 'Avalanche!' (which tells everyone that a hill is coming down the hill).

The Atari that will be delisted is not the Atari of yore. This is but a shell of the former great company of our youth, passed around like a proverbial football (or hot-potato), until the ball drops (or the timer goes off). Atari is just a nameplate now, much like Zenith, RCA, and other companies that still do business, but are nothing more than labels and acquisitions.

But, even though it's just a nameplate, it still feels like a kick in the teeth. Almost like the kick in the teeth we had when Sega and SNK were bought. I still shake my head when I see SNK/Playmore and Sega/Majesco. Sad times.

I was a HUGE OS/2 fan. It was so powerful for the time, Windows 95 felt like a toy. Once I got Parallels on my MacBook one of the first OSes I installed was OS/2. Got it up and running along with Firefox! I never could get BeOS to install though, it would always hang when booting up.

BeOS would've been a good, lightweight OS for Palm to put in their devices. Very low latency and easy to port over Linux software. I played around with it running Firefox. Nowadays I think Palm is on the right track with basing their next OS on Linux, but they need to get a move on. I'm debating whether to just get a Nokia N800 and be done with it.

I wait for that day like I wait for OS/2 to make its triumphant return to the desktop. :)

Much like Amiga, BeOS's time has come and gone. yeah, it was a forward-thinking operating system, and it was radically different than anything else at them time, but the machines have progressed, and the capabilities most users innately have for their operating environments have long surpassed what the Amiga, BeOS, and OS/2 machines were capable of. Seamless multimedia and 3D? Pretty much standard nowadays. About the only thing I saw that was unique on the Amiga preview screens I saw was the icons. Whoop-de-freakin'-doo.

I'm not saying we should ignore the accomplishments of these companies and their incredible products, I'm saying we should respect, admire, and progress in their spirit. I'd rather see BeOS's unique features re-imagined and coupled with something like Linux than see BeOS try the route of adding yet another operating system to an already muddled and confused mess.

I agree! I was too much in a hurry to post the link than to write a witty tagline to go with it, but I think you summed it up very well!

Now if only Palm would do something with BeOS!!

Commodore is not back. That's like saying Zenith, Fischer, or RCA is back. All these computers represent is a company that fell b the wayside, and some being inhabited the dead husk and is now building something... ANYTHING to keep the brand alive. The old Commodore died when Tramiel left it (for better or for worse, Commodore was Tramiel's company, much like Atari was a Warner Brothers Company). Poor showing. This is about as pathetic as the new Amiga computers.

Pathetic.
